Many female convicts were admitted to the colonial hospitals (in Hobart and Launceston) while serving their sentence, and after gaining their freedom. Others were admitted to the New Norfolk Hospital for the Insane.

There were also hospitals in each of the Female Factories.

A list of the convicts admitted to hospital during 1846 appeared in the British Parliamentary Papers Vol.9 in 1849.
